Chris — thanks for this comment. It really makes me think about labels and I’m going to keep thinking about it.
What I’m asking of *everyone* is simply to treat all injustice as injustice and speak out against hate and dehumanization. I addressed this to progressives because there does seem to be a trend among a certain group of people, who I describe as progressive because they tend to present themselves as being strongly opposed to racism/religious bigotry, to avoid applying their principles to a single group. I want these people in particular to examine what it is that keeps them from including Jews in the set of minorities worthy of concern and protection.
But that’s not at all to say I wouldn’t welcome your support. The actions I listed at the end of the article would be most welcome coming from you as well. Let a Jewish friend know you care. Post something online if that’s what you do. If a Jewish group is marching, join them. Whichever you’re most comfortable with.
