1. I grew up 2 blocks from Tree of Life synagogue. My mom was there for services the week before the shooting and could hear gunshots from home as the shooting was underway. Virtually everyone in America, left and right, condemned that attack, and it meant the world to me. The reason I wrote this letter is that as Jews are being beaten, spat on, and shot at with fireworks now, most progressives are *not* condemning it (I'm not talking about members of congress; I'm talking about the people I know).

2. I don't think you understand why I mentioned supporting AAPI folks. The conflation of supporting Asian Americans with supporting the Chinese govt is indeed ridiculous. So is the conflation of supporting random American Jews with supporting the Israeli govt. Both are ridiculous conflations, but only one is widely *recognized* as ridiculous. That's the whole reason I brought it up.
