I didn't make an argument for Zionism in this letter.

But since you are talking about it, you did write a sentence that stood out to me: "Those in positions of power can never be judged by the same standards as those in positions of desperation."

I wonder where you would put Jews in the 1940s, when Israel was founded, on the power-desperation spectrum. (Keep in mind that 1/3 of our global population had *just* been exterminated on an industrial scale in a few short years while the world turned its back, people who were trying to go back to their destroyed neighborhoods and towns were being regularly beaten and murdered by their former neighbors, and most countries including the US were severely limiting immigration.)
