I don’t think it makes a lot of sense to go after the author of an essay by asking about their personal history of activism, because that behavior sets up a situation where only people with long histories of visible activism can write about their personal experiences.

When Trump was in office and white supremacists were targeting Jews, I wasn’t writing about this because, as you say, our allies were showing up for us. Instead, I writing about how awful Trump is and donating lots of time and money to end his presidency.

As my letter says explicitly, the progressive silence is new.
