Thanks for this article. I think you're absolutely right that many people, including many Jews, were unfamiliar with the figure of speech he was using. At the same time, many non-Jews are unfamiliar with how this expression can sound to Jewish ears. The result was an online battle royale born of blind spots which only exacerbated tensions between our communities.
